If you love bright sunshine, blue skies, 10-15 miles per hour winds and
eighty-degree temperatures, you would have loved being at the Innisbrook
Golf Resort Island Course on December 28th and 29th.
All of the juniors had a wonderful time and experienced a very difficult
course. Holes number 6, 7, 9 and 18 required all of the focus and
patience that the juniors had. Many new friendships were made as well
renewing new friendships. Twelve states and Ontario, Canada were
represented.
In the girls divisions, all of the Champions played very consistently.
8-11 girls division champion, Alyssa Getty, shot 79-81=160; 12-14 girls
division champion, Hana Ku, shot 84-82=166. The
two most improved girls for the tournament were Kelly Grassell who
improved 11 shots on the second day and Karli LaGrotte who improved 16
shots.
In the 15-19 girls division, champion, Dakoda Dowd shot 81-79=160. Dakoda was scratched by a squirrel while feeding it a
cookie and finished the round with birdies on holes 17 and 18. Mary
Katherine Slattery, who is doing very well, only playing golf for one
year, played through an injury as well and birdied the 18th hole.
In the boys 10-11 division champion, David Baker, played very steady
with 77-79=156. Coming in second place with the most improvement on the
second day was Ajani Liggins, who had his first tournament round in the
70’s. Ajani finished with 87-79=166.
In the boys 12-13 division, this year’s champion had the largest
improvement on the second day than any other champion. Will Seger, shot
79-72=151. Great job, Will! Jonah Wasserstrom improved 12 shots on the
second day.
The boys 14-15 age division had the only champion who had the only even
par round of the tournament, Mac Telle, shot 76-71=147 to also earn
weekend medalist honors. This was some absolute wonderful golf. Mac is
from Louisville, Kentucky. Could we have another great player in our
midst? Remember J.B. Holmes played on the PJGT and is from Kentucky.
Mac is a player to watch. Ryan Prince improved greatly going from 91 on
the first day to 79 on the second day.
In the boys 16-19 boys division the juniors played from 6735 yards,
with a slope of 140 and a rating of 73.5 and a par of 71. It was very
challenging. Kyle Grassell, emerged from this age group to claim the
championship shooting 81-76=157. Wesley Liu was right behind Kyle
shooting 82-79=161 and was six shots over the third place finisher, Kyle
Peters. Charlie Martin turned in the largest improvement in this
division. Charlie went from 100 on the first day to 85 on the second
day. This is a great lesson; don’t ever give up! Keep trying and good
things will happen.
There were two eagles during the tournament. One the first day, Ryan
Finney, eagled the Par 5 second hole that played 505 yards. Ryan is in
the 16-19 boys division. Will Seger who is in the boys 12-13 division
eagled hole 15, a par 5 that played 450 yards.
Congratulations to everyone that played. You are all WINNERS!!!
