This weekend was quite a marathon. We had weather that was cold, windy, sunny, and rainy with a little sleet. Our players figured out that they need to be prepared with rain gear, as well as winter gear. The players and parents were ready. Good job! Zach Taylor from Pittsburgh, PA was the overall medalist for the 8-11 year olds, as well as taking first place in the Boys 10-11 division. He had such a good attitude all weekend, no matter how cold and wet he got! Michael Bernard, Huber Heights, OH, in his first tournament this spring, was the Boys 14-15 division winner, as well as the 12-19 weekend medalist. Michael did not miss a beat after taking a winter break. The Boys 12-13 division had another close match, down the stretch. Brendon Doyle, Louisville, KY shot 157 for first place with Clark Engle, Springfield, OH one stroke back for second. Third place was decided by a three-way playoff. Joey Arcuri, Cincinnati, OH, Brett Rinker, Slippery Rock, PA, and Luke Schumann, Dayton, OH all shot 162. Brett won the playoff for third place. The Boys 14-15 division had another good field. Michael Bernard shot 74-78=152 to take first-place honors. Alec Tahy, Dayton, OH, had the low round on Sunday with a 76 to place second with a score of 157. Alex Carpenter, Westerville, OH was one stroke back to take third place with 158. With tie scores of 165 Brennan Walsh, Cincinnati, OH ousted Jack Schlemmer, New Albany, OH in a playoff for fourth place. John Paul King, Hilliard, OH shot scores of 77-78=155 to capture first place in the Boys 16-19 division. This was John Paul’s first PJGT victory! Ben Hogenkamp, Minster, OH came in second after a playoff with David Wetterich, Cincinnati, OH who came in third, both scoring 157. Another playoff was held between Cody Richmond, West Union, OH and Alex Andrews, Kirtland, OH; both shot 159. Cody won the playoff, taking third place. Thanks to Mrs. Mann who stayed busy with the playoffs in the wind and rain. All four players hung in there until the end! The girls’ divisions really held their own this weekend. They finished with stronger winds and more rain! Kara Brinkmann, Liberty Township, OH in the Girls 15-19 division captured first place, shooting 84-85=169 in her third PJGT event. Her attitude was great! She was so positive all weekend that it did not matter what the conditions were. Allison Harper came in second with a 181. Bailey Arnold, Cincinnati, OH was third with 176. Abby Tepe had the most-improved round in the field with her Sunday round. She scored 22 strokes better with a 94 on Sunday. The Girls 12-14 division players who took the top three places were from out of state! Ales White from Haymarket, VA shot 76-79=155 for first, Kuriko Tsukiyama, Bogota, NJ shot 88-85=172 for second place and third place went to Chau Tran, Louisville, KY with scores of 90-84=174. All the girls played well. Alex was really on her game, even in tough conditions. She is an inspiration for all. On her golf shoes, she has bible verses printed in various places for her inspiration. Great job and congratulations to all!
