On another tough weekend for weather conditions, the members of the PJGT once again showed how tough and competitive they are by producing some great golf in some very "UNGREAT" conditions.
In the Boys 8-9 division Thomas Calbi posted two great scores of 73 and 82 (155) to place 1st while Varun Chopra finished second with a two-day total of 170. Aaron Dobbs finished third.
Thomas also won the weekend Medalist Award in the 8-11 year old division with his fine showing.
In the Boys 10-11 division Jackson Wendling placed first with two great rounds of 77 and 79 (156), Russell Matos finished second with rounds of 79 and 84 (163) and Jordan Velez and Trent Wallace tied for third. Trent won third on the scorecard playoff.
In the Boys 12-13 division we had to bring the boys in early because of the weather. Devan Schulert shot a 75 on Saturday and placed first with the stipulated round on Sunday. Drew Langan placed second and Reed Ahren finished third winning a scorecard playoff with Charlie Netzel.
In the Boys 14-15 division Andrew Mitchell posted two great rounds of 77 and a 72 on Sunday to place first in his age group. His great showing also won the weekend medalist award in the 12 to 19 age group. Nathan Nottrott also played very well posting scores of 77 and 74, while Kit Koerner shot 79 and 75 to finish third. These scores are "Fantastic" considering the weather conditions.
In the Boys 16-19 division William Wright shot one under par, 71 on Saturday and followed that with an 80 on Sunday to capture first place. Ryan Frederick placed second with rounds of 77 and 75 and Michael Koester finished third with rounds of 73 and 79. Ryan won the scorecard playoff for second. Again, look at these scores.
The girls had to have the final round of the tournament shortened to stipulated rounds because of the weather, but this did not keep these girls from competing at a very high level.
In the Girls 12-14 division Stephanie Miller posted a 79 on Saturday and went on to finish first in her division, while Harley Dubsky shot 81 on Saturday and placed second, and Danielle Brown shot 83 on Saturday and finished third. Their Sunday stipulated round had to be cut off at 12 holes.
In the Girls 15-19 division Taylor Quinn was "mighty" on Saturday with a round of 81 and went on the win her division, while Carolyn Kupchik shot 83 on Saturday and finished second after Sundays totals, and Jamie Caylor shot an 88 on Saturday but came back strong on Sunday to finish third.
On the PJGT we play in some pretty difficult weather conditions, and I never cease to be amazed at the toughness and competitive spirit of our PJGT members. Congratulations to all of you who competed this past weekend at Cog Hill Country Club. Coach Garrett.
