Stony Creek Golf Course at Wintergreen Resort
Nellysford, VA, 22958
April 25-26 2009

Director: Gelenberg

Is this a winter golf tour? 88 degrees, bright sunshine, crystal blue skies – this felt more like July than April as 24 players teed it up and enjoyed the weekend.

FAQ
Q: Was the course as nice as the weather?
A: If by nice you mean beautiful scenery and terrific greens, then yes. If your definition of nice is easy, then no. Wintergreen loves narrow fairways and tricky greens. Make no mistake – this was a test.

Q: This is Shannon Brooks’ last season in the Girls 8-11 division. How did she do?
A: Look out Girls 12-14 – she’s coming next year! Shannon fired rounds of 80-76 to secure her victory at Wintergreen. Newcomer Gillian Han played in her first PJGT event – actually, her first competitive event – and had some solid shots throughout the weekend. We hope to see more of you! Isaiah Boucher played with the pair and took first in the Boys 8-9 division. Good job, all!

Q: The Girls 15-19 division sure made up some ground on Sunday.
A: Yes they did! All three girls shaved several strokes off Saturday’s round. By the end of the weekend, Hasamone Nimjareansuk recorded her first PJGT victory, narrowly edging out Sydney Hudson by one stroke. Katherine Connell was close behind and took third in her first PJGT event. Congratulations!

Q: Did Alex White win again?
A: Alex didn’t have much competition this weekend, but that didn’t stop her from recording terrific rounds of 79-76. Well done!

Q: Lots of drivers used off the tees this weekend?
A: Not if you played in the Boys 16-19 division. Woods and hybrids were the order of the day as narrow fairways – make that EXTREMELY NARROW fairways – forced a change of strategy for this group. Travis Sprinkle took a one shot lead into Sunday’s round and held on for first, with Tom Tattersall staying on his heels throughout the weekend and earning second. G. Brian Carson shot the low round of the weekend in this division and took third. No worries, boys – grab your drivers and swing away next week at Herndon – those fairways are WIDE!

Q: How did the Boys 14-15 division play?
A: Zack Henry recorded his first PJGT victory with rounds of 81-77. Paul Strader’s 81 on Sunday forced a playoff with Bobby Bradshaw for second. Lying hidden in the grass under Paul’s ball was a three inch, rusty-bolt that sent his first ball flying. In the end, Bobby’s putt earned him second with Paul taking third. Great job!

Q: Did any group teach this course a lesson?
A: Boys 12-13 sure did! Bennett Wisner carded solid rounds of 83-82 to take third, and Michael Comer went 80-74 for second. But it was Brett Rinker who humbled the course by shooting 70-69. Way to go, guys!

Q: Did any first time players win?
A: Fitz Woodrow, in his first PJGT event, took first in the Boys 10-11 division. Teddy Hoffmann’s rounds of 87-82 took second, with Ben Gelenberg taking third.

Q: What recommendations do you have for people who didn’t play this year?
A: Come next year! This is a wonderful facility, the staff couldn’t possibly be better, the scenery is amazing, and you missed out on a great event!

Thanks to everyone for enjoying the weekend with us. We hope to see you again soon!

Best regards,

Phil, Pené and Ben
