Pevely Farms, a once-thriving dairy show farm, has been transformed into a world-class golf experience by one of the greatest names in golf course architecture, Arthur Hills. He has delicately sculpted this 18-hole championship golf course into the natural beauty of the Meramec River Valley. For any golfer visiting St. Louis, this is a must-play. The layout, playing at over 7,100 yards from the championship tees, features manicured zoysia fairways and bent grass greens. Hills' layout appeals to golfers of all skill levels and provides an excellent challenge for the scratch golfer as well as pleasure and fun for the occasional player. While many courses have one scenic hole or two, Pevely Farms has one postcard-worthy view after another. From the many challenges in elevation, to the carries over water, to the fir trees and oaks along the fairways, to the breathtaking vistas of the Meramec Valley, every detail of the course stands in harmony with its surroundings.
The golf course was soaked, after two inches of rain the previous two days. Twenty-seven players teed it up on Saturday, only to be interrupted by a vicious storm with much lightning. Saturday's round was stipulated to nine holes, disappointing many who had scored better on the back.
Boys 8-9 Division Remember the name Brennan Dolnick. He is a delightful 8 year old with a great golf game. Brennan shot 45-88, and impressed us all with a great attitude, and high golf IQ.
Boys 10-11 Division Jake Ecklund shot an impressive 39 on Saturday knocking over pins with stellar iron play. Ecklund slipped a little, shooting 84 on Sunday... on soaked fairways and six inch, wet rough. He took the Weekend Medalist award for all the 8-11 age divisions.
Boys 12-13 Division Newcomer Ryan Martin captured Saturday medalist honors with a 42. Landon Vaughn was lurking 4 shots behind, but came back with 80 on Sunday to win the tournament.
Boys 14-15 Division Brandon Straeb of Clarkson Valley, MO came out strong in the first round with an impressive 1-over 37. Indiana's Keegan Vea was only two shots behind Straeb going into Sunday. Vea shot 74 Sunday to tie Straeb and force a 1st place playoff. Vea made a six-foot putt to win the playoff in first round for his first PJGT victory.
Boys 16-19 Division Jackson, TN's Clay Harbin fired an amazing 33 on Saturday for a two-shot lead over Gabe Laske. Three other players were within four shots going into Sunday. Harbin ran away Sunday with 74 to win the tournament, as well as the Weekend Medalist award for all the 12-19 age divisions. A second place playoff between Hamel and Vea lead to Vea taking second place..
Special thanks to Gary Duff of Southwest Greens for his promotion on Sunday.
