Forest Akers Golf Course at Michigan State University played wonderful hosts to the golfers this weekend. The weather held off on Saturday but on Sunday the weather was very difficult early on. Rainy and windy are never good combinations on the golf course. The greens and hole locations also proved to be very difficult but this lead to some exciting chip-ins.
Matthew Moosavian, Boys 14-15 Division was low for the day on Saturday shooting a round of 74. He finished strong on Sunday with a 1-under 71 to win the Boys 14-15 Division and take home the Overall Weekend Medalist honors for all 12-19 divisions for the weekend. Second place went to Jake Fait with a two-day total of 156 and placing third was Jayson Schott who had 2 chip-ins on Saturday.
Holden Scribner shot 92 on Saturday and 92 on Sunday, which included three birdies in very tough weather conditions, to win The Boys 8-9 Division, as well as the Weekend Medalist for all the 8-11 divisions.
High school golf teammates and in the Boys 16-19 Division, Jake Miller and Corey Weisenstein battled it out, each helping their cause, each with an eagle; Jake’s was on Saturday and Corey’s was on Sunday. Jake shot rounds of 77-74 for a two-day total of 151 and first place. Corey shot 83-80 for second place.
The Girls 12-14 Division battled it out with Jessica Porvasnik winning with a two-day total of 164 and Katie Sharp taking a close second with 166. The Girls 15-19 Division proved equally exciting with a close race between Alina Rogers and Kris Yoo. Alina shot 78 on Saturday and 82 on Sunday; Kris shot 80 on Sat and 81 on Sunday. Alina finished in first place with a two-day total of 160 and Kris was one stroke behind with 161. All in all it was a tough weekend with some great competition on a Big Ten golf course that all enjoyed playing.
